Vanuit de Universiteit Twente kwam het volgende bericht, meld u wel even aan als u interesse heeft. Ik denk dat het voor ons docenten Informatica aardig is om meer over Second Life te weten!
Save the date announcement: SecondLife talk and workshop
This is a preliminary announcement alerting you to an exciting pair of events about SecondLife, the online virtual world that is revolutionizing the Internet. The events are brought to you by the new Center for Information Technology and Society (CITS), which is an interdisciplinary and inter-departmental collaboration at the University of Twente.
Event 1: Wednesday June 13th, 19:30-21:00, Waaier 2, UT.
Public lecture by philosopher and SecondLife Herald founder Peter Ludlow. Dr. Ludlow is a professor in the department of philosophy and department of linguistics at the University of Michigan. He is an engaging speaker and is internationally recognized as one of the foremost authorities on SecondLife and the governance of virtual communities. He is editor of High Noon on the Electronic Frontier (MIT Press, 1996) and Crypto Anarchy, Cyberstates, and Pirate Utopias (MIT Press, 1999). Dr. Ludlow, as the avatar Urizenus Sklar, also founded the Alphaville Herald and the SecondLife Herald, virtual tabloids that have been vital forums for reporting on and debating gaming, virtual communities, and the rise of the metaverse. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Event 2: Thursday June 14th, 14:00-18:00, Drienerburght, UT.
Half-day interdisciplinary workshop on SecondLife. This workshop will feature selected presentations and commentaries on SecondLife from diverse perspectives including various social sciences, philosophy, and business. The agenda for this event is still being formulated and seating is limited. Therefore, if you are interested in presenting your work or attending, please respond to this e-mail in order to register.
We will follow-up as the time draws closer with more details about these events. But for now, mark your calendars and spread the word!
Best,
